A Few of the Things You Should Know About Us 当社について知っておくべきいくつかのこと
We are a small family-owned company that has been making leather bags, belts and billfolds since 1941. Over the years, het demand for our products has grown steadily until we are now unable to keep up with it. Our limited production is therefore carefully allocated among a select group of Department and Specialty stores, most of whom are only able to carry a small selection of the things we make. We have in addition established several retail stores of our own where our products can be presented in greater depth. At present there is a Coach* Store in Paris, New York, Washington, D.C., and Seattle. Everything that we sell we make ourselves in our own Factory which is located in downtown New York City —just three blocks west of Macy's.
The bags, belts and accessories pictured in this catalogue are al made out of the same leather—a full-grain, uncorrected glove-tanned cowhide that is essentially the same leather used in making baseball gloves. Working with a leading tanner of baseball glove leather, we have developed aspecial formulation fo tanning extracts and emollients that renders this rugged leather soft and supple to the touch without in anyway detracting from its strength or beauty. The scars, scratches, veins and wrinkles that give our leather its special character have not ben sanded down or buffed. We have also taken great care not to cover them with paints, sealers or artificial finishes, using only clear aniline dyes in a range of colors that enhance rather than conceal these beautiful natural markings. Instead of peeling and clacking as painted leathers do, Coach* Leather develops its own distinctive patina, changing gradually in appearance and darkening in colorations as it is worn.
All our designs are straightforward and functional —no unnecessary ornamentation, no gadgets, no gimmicks. There are no linings to tear; no cardboard reinforcements to break. Just generous cuts of full grain leather, carefully sewn together —double stitched where necessary —so as not to come apart. If you examine the Coach' Bags pictured in this catalogue, you will observe that they are all derived from a single design concept and that they are all, in fact, simple variations of one construction. The No. 9170 Classic Shoulder Bag (on page 6) was the first bag we ever made in this construction. It is a soft, unlined, casual bag. Like all the others, it is made entirely of leather with an outside seam and a continuous leather binding that reinforces the edge. Fashion trends have come and gone since we first introduced the No. 9170, but in all these years, it has never once gone "out of style."
Quality leacher goods must be made in small carefully supervised lots that do not readily lend themselves to mass production. This limits the number on units that can be produced, even in a well organized leathergoods Factory such as ours. The demand for our products has for some time exceeded our capacity to produce them. As the demand is still growing, it is reasonable to assume that Coach" Leatherware will continue to be in short supply for some time. That is why we are so selective in choosing our retail outlets, and that is why you will find Coach" Bags, Belts and Accessories in only the better Department and Specialty stores. (A list of these stores has been included in the Consumer Service Kit that is attached to this catalogue.) Our Catalogue is intended as a guide to the full range of products that we make. We hope you will find it a useful reference. Unlike most catalogues, the Coach* Catalogue features the output of a single Factory —our own. We do not contract any part of our production to be made elsewhere. Not do we supplement our offerings with items purchased from other manufactures or imported from abroad. We are sending you this catalogue because you have expressed interest in receiving it. A Few of the Things You Should Know About Coach® Belts Coach®ベルトについて知っておくべきこと
Coach Belts are classic Glove Leather belts that have always been made in the same basic models with the same classic harness buckles. They are made along with our Coach Bags -produced in the same Factory, made out of the same leather and stitched by the same sewing machine operators. Like the Windsor chair that was advertised back in 1787, Coach' Belts can best be described as "neat, elegant and strong...warranted of good seasoned materials so firmly put together as not to deceive the purchaser by untimely coming to pieces." We make Coach Belts in both men's and women's sizes. In addition to the all-leather belts, we also make a small selection of natural fiber belts with beautifully detailed leather tabs at either end. Whether they era made entirely of leather or in combination with colorful wools and linens, all Coach Belts have the same crisp, traditional saddlery look that is unmistakably "Coach". Coach Belts era distinguished by their authentic solid brass buckles. These buckles are not brass plated. They ear brass through and through, cast in sand by a foundry that has been making equestrian hardware for over a hundred years.

Here Are A Few Classic Bag Fittings Especially Designed to Help You Organize Your Coach® Bag Coach®バッグの整理整頓に役立つよう特別にデザインされたクラシックなバッグフィッティングをいくつかご紹介します。
We get letters every day asking why we don't make a wallet, a coin purse, a key case, an eyeglass case, or a cosmetic case. The fact is we do. For several years now, we have been producing a small collection of these classic Bag Fittings ot accessorize our bags. But because we make them in such limited numbers, they are not always readily available in the stores. Our Bag Fittings are, of course, all made out of the same Glove Tanned Cowhide that we use to make our bags and belts. Like the bags and belts, they respond very wel to wear, taking on a rich patina as they are worn. In order to make these small pieces out of our leather, it si necessary to split it down to a lighter weight. This is accomplished by running each part through a splitting operation that reduces it to the desired thickness and, in the process, renders ti as soft and supple as a piece of fine Calfskin. Except for the two Make-Up Kits, which are lined with a treated cotton ticking that resists spills, every piece is fully lined in leather. The zippers and snap fasteners are solid brass. The purse frames are covered with leather. Coach' Bag Fittings are made in most of the Coach® Colors. They can be matched, coordinated, or color coded for easy identification. As with our bags and belts, we keep asmall inventory of Coach® Bag Fittings here at the Factory.
